Award-Winning Renovation Project Features DaVinci Synthetic Slate Roofing Tiles

When Tim Wahl moved into his 1950s California-split-style Kansas City home three years ago, he had a vision. Wahl imagined the entire house being completely remodeled inside and out. Now complete, the successful transformation has received the Remodel of the Year project award from Kansas City Homes & Gardens magazine.

“One hundred percent of the interior and exterior of this home was renovated, and the results are awesome,” says homeowner Tim Wahl, president with Develop KC, a company that remodels homes and apartment complexes throughout Kansas City. “There were so many elements of this house that needed special attention to make it more appealing. On the outside alone, the multiple roof lines attract a great deal of attention from the street, so it was important to select a roofing product that would perfectly ‘frame’ the exterior of the home.”

For the re-roofing project, Wahl selected Slate roofing tiles from DaVinci Roofscapes®, based in Kansas City. “I had heard about these synthetic tiles but had never used them before,” says Wahl. “Now I’m so impressed by them that I’m recommending them to all my customers and neighbors.

“The authenticity, individual piece size differences and colors all combine to make this an incredible roof for our house. Originally there were old asphalt shingles on the roof. This product blows that away from an aesthetic standpoint. DaVinci’s Aberdeen Blend of dark grey, light brown, dark purple, green stone and dark stone colors are so attractive that the roof is now the focal point on the home.
“Along with the beauty of this roofing product, it’s important to note that the lightweight nature of each synthetic slate tile made it possible to get this authentic slate look. Using real slate on a rehab project would be impossible due to the restructuring necessary to carry the heavy weight of real slate. The DaVinci slate tiles made it possible for us to gain a seamless and elegant look on this roof without the hassles or costs of fortifying the structure.”

To install the 54 squares of roofing tile on the midtown home, Wahl relied on Gentry Roofing. “I selected them based on positive experiences others have had with their company,” says Wahl. “They lived up to their reputation and offered a quality installation. It really feels good to have a roofing product on my home that was has so many connections with Kansas City.”

Gentry Roofing was started in Kansas City in 1981 by Tim Gentry, who now serves as Vice President of Technical Services for DaVinci Roofscapes. His nephew, John, started working at the company in 1984 and became president in 1999.

“Seeing our DaVinci product installed so successfully on a project in our city that is earning this award from Kansas City Homes & Gardens magazine is rewarding,” says Tim Gentry. “For me, it’s extremely special that the company I started 29 years ago is still working with quality products on quality projects.”
