Finding the Right Color For Your Front Door
but it can impact the overall appearance of your home.”
When helping customers to select the right tone for their slate or shake roofing systems I consider the colors of every exterior surface not just the roofing. The front door is one of the many things I look at. While it is often one of the smallest areas of color on the exterior it is a place where color can make a big statement.
Your front entrance welcomes your guests and conveys the warmth, happiness, and comfort that fill the inside of your home. It is a focal point for the front of your house. You want your entry door to standout; to clearly call attention to your front entrance.
To inspire you to think about colors for your own front door I’ve found some great examples of enticing entries that go with some of my favorite sustainable roofing tiles.
Do you think green and orange sounds like an outrageous combination? Think again. DaVinci’s Weathered Green standard blend slate roofing tiles and a deep yellow-orange front door are a winning combination that takes this otherwise neutral home from drab to fab! Always use your eyes when selecting colors not what you think the color looks like when you hear the name.
Creating an attention getting entry doesn’t always mean bold color; Well placed color can be just as effective. The deep blue-black door is set off by the leaded windows and warm rich golden tan of the trim. With a Slate Black you might think you need to go with black. Not so.
Blue is the color that most stands out against orange. Choosing a black with hint of navy blue means that the front door will stand out more against the brick and trim than if you had chosen standard black. Plus black with a hint of color is more captivating to your guest as they approach your front door.
