From The Architect’s Corner – Retro Fit Snow Guards

In the installation instructions for our slate and shake composite roofing material we (strongly) recommend that you specify snow guards on projects in areas where snowfall occurs. We understand that sometimes snow guards get overlooked or cut from a project, especially in the warm summer months when winter seems pretty far away. Throughout the fall I field a lot of calls inquiring about post installation snow retention, and luckily most snow guard manufacturers make a retro fit system that can be installed on our previously installed lightweight roofing systems. The easiest way to figure out how to do this is to contact the snow guard manufacturer directly and get their advice on how to get started. If your roofer needs technical assistance on how to remove tiles in order to install the retro fit system, contact us and we will be happy to give advice.

Happy Friday, Architects!
