Interview With Longtime Contractor, Trent Lovewell Of Weatherguard, Inc

Trent Lovewell Of Weatherguard, Inc. was kind enough to do an interview with us about our green roof systems.  Thank you, Trent, for the interview.

1. How did you first discover DaVinci?

Larry Koom from Builder’s Supply in Omaha introduced it to me.  And then Tim Gentry came up to Omaha to do an installation demonstration of the product.

2. What do you like about DaVinci? Color blends? Shape of tiles? Performance?

In Omaha, we love the fact that it is Class 4 because we get a lot of hail – and we don’t have to worry about re-roofing our DaVinci projects!

I also love the look of DaVinci’s composite slate.  I’m also a huge fan of the waffle back of a DaVinci shingle instead of the solid back of some of the competitors.  I know that waffle back makes sure that DaVinci does not bend, curl or warp, so again, I don’t have to worry about returning to my DaVinci jobs.  Also, the no fading part of DaVinci is huge – we did the first DaVinci roof in Omaha in 2005 and there is no fading still.  It was the Aberdeen blend.  We also like the thickness.

3. What’s the biggest thing that homeowners say to you about DaVinci?

They love the professional look. After the job is done, they say that they like being the only ones in the neighborhood with a DaVinci roof because they feel like they are setting a trend.

4.  Why do you like DaVinci?

Love the look of synthetic slate roof tile.  The performance is flawless and of course, NO FADING.

5. Are there homeowners that you wouldn’t recommend DaVinci to?

No, I’d recommend it to anyone.  When you’re talking about roofing, upper-end roofing – you want something that will decorate your home – Weatherguard wants you to be the envy of the neighborhood and we will decorate your roof to your liking.

6. What DaVinci products have you worked with?

Both slate and shake classic and renaissance.  We prefer the classic.  We’ve done the Single-Width Slate and Single-Width Shake too, because the homeowner was trying to save money. There are a lot of neighborhoods in Omaha that all have natural shake, so DaVinci is the perfect replacement for them because those homes aren’t engineered to hold the weight of slate, so they have to go with DaVinci or natural shake.  Of course, they’ll be replacing their roof again soon if they go with shake, so we prefer them to go with DaVinci.

7. Which DaVinci products do you like? Do you have a favorite color blend?

Aberdeen blend – we like the mixtures of colors – the plum, the mulberry, the green and the grey – Aberdeen reminds me of how slate roofs in the 1800s used to look.

8. What other roofing products do you install?

Slate, tile, asphalt, wood shakes, wood shingles.

9. Of the materials you install, do you have a preference of what material you like to install? Why?

DaVinci.  We love the pre-bundled packages because it makes the job go a lot quicker and smoother.

10. How long have you been in the roofing  business?

Ten years-but our company’s going on 24 years
