Snow Retention for Roofs

With the record breaking winter of 2009-2010 nearly behind us I think it is a good time for me to get on my soap box and preach again about the need for snow retention solutions on Synthetic Cedar Shake and Synthetic Slate roofs. Many roofing materials including natural slate, metal, as well as polymeric roofing products, tend to shed snow rather than retain it. While this can be a good thing because it reduces the amount of weight on the roof, you want to control where the snow comes down. A good snow retention system is designed to keep snow on the roof in specific areas until the snow melts.

At DaVinci Roofscapes we strongly recommend installing snow guards where even occasional heavy snowfall is likely when the roof is installed. Following this advice will keep your driveways and walks safe and clear while preventing unneeded damage to your gutters and landscaping.
