Roof Advisor Makes Life Easier for Homeowners
KANSAS CITY, KAN. - When Larry Miller speaks, Seattle homeowners listen. With more than 40 years experience in the roofing industry, Miller now specializes in laying the groundwork to make it easier for consumers to reroof their homes.
"We serve as residential roof consultants offering free, unbiased advice, independent oversight of the roofing project and a wide variety of options to fit the homeowner's roofing needs," says Miller, co-owner of Seattle Roof Advisor, Inc.(TM) "We're not representing just one or two roofing products or installers — we filter out all the industry information to present people with options that meet their budgets and long-term needs."
Together with his wife Sandy (who brings 40+ years experience in office administration and software specialties to the team), Miller meets with hundreds of homeowners each year to get the perfect roof overhead. He brings a trailer with 250 samples of roofing materials right to the consumer's home to provide on-site options for their roofing needs.
"In my opinion, synthetic roofing materials have a leg up on the competition in our area," says Miller. "We've specified about 10 projects recently with DaVinci shake or slate tiles. It's by far the best quality and appearance of a synthetic roof tile in the marketplace and the 50-year warranty really impresses my clients. Personally, I can't imagine these tiles lasting less than 75 years."
For no charge to the homeowner, the Millers draw up roofing specifications, create budget worksheets and offer roofing product options. Then, once a product is selected, they locate a contractor for the project.
"We verify the financial stability of the contractor and his track record before recommending a company to a homeowner," says Miller. "I personally interview the contractors to make sure they have a company business plan, sales staff, a solid infrastructure and industry credentials. Plus, I require them to stand behind their installation for at least 10 years before I'll recommend them to homeowners."
In return for passing Miller's rigorous review, the roofing installers get complete materials lists, detailed project drawings and specifications, and an opportunity to bid on projects they have demonstrated the expertise to install.
Perhaps the most valuable aspect of Miller's service is his on-site project management and post-installation inspection process which assures that the roof system that the homeowner selected is installed properly before final payment is made.
One successful project underway that was coordinated by the Millers is the installation of DaVinci Fancy Shake tiles in Weathered Gray on a home in Bellevue, Washington. "This is a $90,000 roof installation project that was awarded to a local contractor," says Miller. "This contractor has successfully completed DaVinci installations in the past, so I know he can be relied on for excellent service. I worked with American Building & Roofing, Inc., a local distributor in Everett, on purchasing the product, so the homeowners don't have to do a thing."
Within the Seattle marketplace, Miller has access to a wide base of contractors that he has already vetted that have earned his recommendation since the company was started in 2004. A past installer, foreman, estimator, field superintendent, contractor and consultant in the roofing industry, Miller knows what he's looking for when matching up an installer with a homeowner.
"I have a very clear understanding of what makes a roofer successful and reliable and I want to pass that on to homeowners," says Miller. "You've heard of wedding planners and party planners before ... I'm a roofing planner. I take care of all the details so homeowners can live 'happily ever after' with their new roofs."
