Polymer Shake Roof Blends in With Lakefront Home
KANSAS CITY, KAN. – After a storm damaged their old cedar shake garage roof, homeowners Barbara and Thomas Meyers decided it was time to invest in a new roof for their entire home. Not wishing to worry about severe weather affecting another roof in the future, they selected the new Bellaforté Shake polymer roof with a 50-year limited warranty to help protect their home.
“I wanted something that looked like real wood shakes but performed better,” says homeowner Thomas Meyers of Prior Lake, Minn. “I was tired of our older wood shakes deteriorating with different weather conditions. Plus, mold would accumulate on the wood shakes and the shakes were fading. Overall, dealing with this roof was a huge headache.
“After doing research on DaVinci Roofscapes and discussing the product with our contractor, we decided our best option was the Bellaforté Shake product that resists impact, wind, algae and mold.”
The Meyers selected a Tuscano color blend of Bellaforté Shake roofing tiles to complement their stone and log lakefront home. Each multi-width polymer roofing tile replicates hand-split real cedar shakes with slanted sawn edges and staggered lengths. The tiles feature snap-fit tabs for easy installation and self alignment.
“With our old cedar shingles, they’d work their way out and sometimes come off the roof,” says Meyers. “We know these new polymer tiles are connected and interlocking, which will add to their durability and low maintenance for us.
“Overall our roof plays a major role in the architectural style of our home. Having a new roof that we won’t have to worry about warping, mold or storm damage is terrific. I’d definitely recommend the roof to family and friends, and I believe the Bellaforté Shake product is a sensible long-term investment for our home.”
An Installer’s Perspective
Roofing installer Travis Herritz provided strong insights to the Meyers as they searched for a replacement roofing product.
“I like this polymer roofing tile better than real wood shakes because it stands out and the homeowners know what color they’re dealing with right away,” says Herritz, president of Springer Construction Services, LLC. “With natural cedar, it changes from golden to silver to gray and even to black in some cases. Plus, this DaVinci product is easier to install than real cedar because of the standardized size.”
Bellaforté Shake roofing tiles come in 49 colors and a selection of five color blends, including Abruzzo, Espresso, Tuscano, Verona and Harbor Gray. The 12-inch tiles feature multiple profiles that enable roofing contractors to create a staggered appearance that simulates a natural rough hewn wood shake roof. The product’s patented features, which include a leading edge tab and a self-aligning ledge, help reduce the installation time for the Bellaforté Shake product.
The team from Springer Construction Services completed the roof on the Meyers home before the end of the summer and hope to add a similar Bellaforté Shake roof to a boat house for the family in the near future. In the meantime, lakefront living for the Meyers is now more enjoyable than ever since their roofing worries are behind them.
