Under Construction: Potlatch Club

What do Greta Garbo, the Beatles and Prince Charles have in common? Many years ago they were all guests at the Potlatch Club, a small resort hotel in the Bahamas.

Sadly, over time the original 1923 structure fell into disrepair. Now, with a dream of rebuilding turning into reality, Hans Febles and Bruce Loshusan are “under construction” with a dedication to creating a new resort by 2019.

“We’re dealing with both renovating the older existing structures and constructing new buildings,” says Hans Febles, owner/operator of Potlatch Club in Eleuthera, Bahamas. “We’re planning on transforming the main house into a reception building, then creating a restaurant, spa/gym, four villas, three guest suites and nine guest cottages.”

What roofing product will top off all these buildings on the former pineapple plantation? Bellaforté Shake composite tiles from DaVinci Roofscapes.

“We needed a cedar shingle alternative that can handle high winds, salt air and hot, humid weather,” says Febles. “We looked at several product options, but decided on DaVinci because of its durability, aesthetics and price. The look of this product is very realistic and we love it. The bonus for us is that DaVinci roofing materials have good fire ratings, acts as additional insulation and will enable us to collect rainwater from the roofs, which is so important on a small island!”

The team is currently working with roofer Stephen Rolle to replace old cedar shingles on the original villas. New buildings will be constructed over the next two years.

“This is a dream project, with roofing products that are helping turn our dreams into reality,” says Febles. “We’re extremely pleased that the Weathered Gray color blend we selected accents the historic nature of the buildings and has the look of aged cedar shingles. When the property opens we know our guests will also appreciate the aesthetic appeal and beauty of these composite shake shingles.”
