Eliminate Headaches of a Moldy Roof

Shake roof

On some types of roofs, it’s very possible for algae, fungus and even mold to take hold and grow. And, once it grows, it’s really hard to get it off the roof.

With September being Mold Awareness Month, we wanted to share a few tips for understanding your home and it’s “moldy relationships.”

  • Tip #1 – Mold can grow in closed-in spaces if there’s not enough ventilation. Adding functional louvers to your attic keeps the flow of air moving, and reduces the chances of mold. It’s also good to use fans in your bathrooms and kitchens whenever steamy water is around … to help move that air out of the room and reduce the risk of mold growth.
  • Tip #2 – On your roof, if you use a natural product (like real cedar shakes) you have the chance of finding mold, mildew or fungus growing on your roofing materials over time. Even if you treat those materials, it will eventually wear off and you’ll either have to retreat or fix the problem time after time.
  • Tip #3 – Get rid of moldy headaches overhead by selecting a composite shake or slate roofing product. Manufactured and warranted to resist the growth of mold, mildew and algae, our DaVinci Roofscapes synthetic shakes and slates are the easy solution.
  • Tip #4 – See Tip #3. And, also know that our mold-resistant roofing tiles also resist insects, rot, decay, fire spread, high winds and impact to give you peace-of-mind and a roof you can count on!
