Coastal Homeowner Relies on DaVinci Slate Roof

Gretchen Downer’s home sits right on the South Carolina coast. Having the ocean so close means her house exterior is constantly exposed to salt air, sea spray and humidity. Above all, it’s the potential for hurricanes and severe weather that the homeowner must be prepared for. That’s why she recently invested in a composite slate roof from DaVinci Roofscapes.

“The house is oceanfront, so all weather conditions can impact our property,” says Downer, a resident of Pawleys Island, South Carolina. “Our home is 27 years old. We were fortunate to keep the original mansard roofing for so long. However, we’ve had multiple problems with the slate over the years.

“We’ve replaced large roof sections at various times. Pieces cracked and broke off, while others were simply missing. Some severe leaking finally made us invest in a new synthetic slate roof.”

No Call-Backs

When it was time to get her new roof, Downer enlisted the help of the experts at Spann Roofing. They recommended impact- and fire-resistant slate tiles from DaVinci Roofscapes.

“We believe DaVinci Single-Width slate shingles are the perfect match for the mansard roofing application on the Downer home,” says Caylie McCarthy with Spann Roofing & Sheet Metal, Inc. “They’re backed by a lifetime limited materials warranty. No matter how bad the weather gets, these durable synthetic slate roofing tiles will hold up.”

Spann Roofing has been installing DaVinci products since 2007. The roofers recommend the composite roofing tiles because they’re a perfect fit for the coastal area.

“We’ve never had a call-back on any of our DaVinci roof installations, not even after storms,” says McCarthy. “The hail resistance and wind ratings for this slate roofing product are amazing. You also get style, an authentic look and long-term easy maintenance. That’s a winning combination.”

For their home, the Downers selected the Single-Width Slate tiles in a Castle Gray color. The roof color matches their shutters and provides an overall accent on the home. The color and texture of the slate tiles also fits perfectly within the neighborhood homes.

“We’ve received many compliments on our new roof,” says Downer. “One couple was so impressed they borrowed our DaVinci samples and literature. They’re reviewing it so they can consider it for their own home.

“Overall, Spann Roofing did an excellent job. We love our new slate roof. It was professionally installed by a competent team that we highly recommend!”
