Composite Slate Chosen for Custom Home

This custom home's composite roof needed to be lightweight, low maintenance and complementary to the home's architectural style. DaVinci Slate met all criteria.
Dream a little. But think big. As in 7 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms big. As in 3 fireplaces, gourmet kitchen, pool/spa big. As in 13,000 square feet of space big. That’s the type of home that Greenwich Custom Homes builds for its clients. And yes, it has a big price tag – $15.9 million.

“Everything inside this home demands we cover this house with an incredible roof,” says Joseph Granitto, developer and roofing contractor with Greenwich Custom Homes. “This is why we chose DaVinci Roofscapes.

“A house of this caliber needs a maintenance-free roof that homeowners don’t have to worry about. Yet it needs to be realistic-looking with visual impact. That means DaVinci.”

For the impressive Georgian Colonial style home, Granitto chose DaVinci Multi-Width Slate in a Smokey Gray color. His company installs DaVinci products on other custom homes, so he has confidence in his selection.

The lightweight tiles are modeled from actual slate for natural, non-repeating beauty. Each tile is made from pure virgin resins, UV and thermal stabilizers, plus a highly-specialized fire retardant. The result is a tile that’s Class A fire resistant. In addition, each 12″-wide tile resists impact, insects, fading and cracking.

“We didn’t want to deal with the extra weight of adding real slate to this structure,” says Granitto. “The DaVinci product gives us a blend of cost and function. In addition, the Lifetime Limited Material Warranty is very important. It takes a burden off us, and off the homeowner. It’s definitely a positive selling point.”

Award-Winning Home

The “Wow Factor” of the two-story home is remarkable. For the way the DaVinci roof caps off the home so perfectly and the great installation work of the synthetic slate, the roofing team, J. Salvatore & Sons, Inc. has been named as a winner of a 2023 DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor Project of the Year Award.

Granitto’s brother, Nick Salvatore, runs the roofing company, which is part of a century-old family business.

“We take a great deal of pride in the beauty and installation of this roof,” says Salvatore, president of J. Salvatore & Sons, Inc. “DaVinci has the most realistic looking composite roofing product on the market. Time after time we see how the product perfectly accents a home. The authentic appearance makes a strong impact on the appearance of the property.”

Working together on the family business, both Salvatore and Granitto savor the roofing award.

“Our grandfather started this business in 1921,” says Salvatore. “After that it was handed down to our uncle. Generation after generation we’ve used quality products that we’re proud to provide to our customers.

“Winning this award for using the DaVinci products that we so passionately believe in is a highlight for our family business.”
