Composite Slate Improves Lakeside Living

Lakefront living is meant for leisure times, not for maintaining a roof. So when the Hochman’s fiber cement slate roof started failing, they opted to proactively make a change. After researching their options, the homeowners invested in low-maintenance composite slate roofing from DaVinci Roofscapes.

The low-maintenance composite slate roof on this Lake Travis boathouse means more time for leisure.
“You could see the old roof was delaminating,” says Daniel Askari, general manager with Absolute Construction in Garland, Texas. “The Hochmans wanted a roof that would not present them with this problem again. That’s when I recommended DaVinci.”

A DaVinci Masterpiece Contractor for many years, Askari has successfully installed hundreds of DaVinci composite roofs. He’s seen them withstand both normal Texas weather and severe storms. Class A fire rated and Class 4 impact rated, DaVinci products are made to handle what Mother Nature brings their way.

“These homeowners wanted a high performing roof, that would have a long lifespan and outstanding aesthetics,” says Askari. “In addition, they wanted minimal maintenance so they could enjoy their lakefront home. The answer was clearly DaVinci.”

Outstanding Appearance

This low-maintenance composite slate roof complements the main house and provides the same protection for the boathouse. During the product option review, the Hochmans chose Askari’s favorite DaVinci product, the DaVinci Multi-Width Slate in a Slate Black color. “This profile reflects nothing less than pure craftsmanship,” says Askari. “The aesthetics are outstanding.”

The distinct multi-width appearance presented a challenge that Askari and his team enjoyed. The staggered installation on this Austin, Texas, home means that every piece was installed differently than the previous one. The originality of the roof system gives it a unique appearance.

Rewarding Waterfront Experience

While the house itself is a dream roofing job, there is another element that makes this low-maintenance composite slate project even more special: A boathouse that sits right on Lake Travis.

“We never worked on a boathouse roof before where there was no sound footing,” says Askari. “This means we didn’t have ladder access. We had to create a platform that essentially floated on the water to hold our ladders. This was a truly challenging part of the job. However, it was also one of the most rewarding parts.”

Askari is particularly proud of the collaboration and critical thinking required to complete this special project. “This project has the best of everything. The best teamwork imaginable coupled with the best composite slate roofing. This will definitely be one of my all-time favorite projects!”
