Punching Up Curb Appeal with Composite Shake Siding

Knock knock. What would you do if strangers stopped at your home to ask about your home’s siding? If you’re Sharon Hockett, you get used to the questions.

“We’ve had people driving by simply stop to ask about our composite shake siding,” says Hockett, a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma. “I honestly have been overwhelmed and surprised by the positive responses from neighbors. Everyone likes it. They complement us constantly. We are getting used to answering questions about the siding.”

Winning Curb Appeal

The Question – The Answer

For Hockett, the complements reinforce the idea that she chose the perfect siding material for her home renovation. What did she choose? DaVinci Hand-Split Shake Siding in a natural Aged Cedar coloring.

The curb appeal value of Hockett’s home skyrocketed with the change. After 14 years in her home, she’s pleased with the change … and her product selections.

“The wood siding I had previously was in fair condition,” says Hockett. “Some of the wood had rotted. Many areas needed shake replacements. So, I decided to start over.

“I wanted a siding product that was not wood. And I didn’t want a basic, flat vinyl siding.”

What she searched for is a siding product that holds longer than real wood. So she started investigating her options. In addition, she hired Bryan Paige to help with the research.

Synthetic Siding Selection

“Sharon was looking for a shake siding that feels and appears like real hand-split shake,” says Paige, owner of BRP Custom Woodwork. “She wants the texture and depth of a shake product on her home’s exterior. However, she also wants low-maintenance, natural color and a long lifespan.

“After previewing several products, the DaVinci shake siding met all her demands. It has an authentic appearance, natural color and is easy to care for. In addition, the composite shake siding resists impact, fire, high winds, rotting and insects. It even has a Lifetime Limited Warranty.”

Getting the Project Done

Once the decision was made on the DaVinci siding, Paige got to work. He removed the rotted trim and siding on the home. He rebuilt the chimney enclosure. In addition, he added a rear porch to the house. He repainted the exterior and added a three-camera security system. To finish off the project, Paige replaced the existing wood garage door with an insulated steel garage door.

When it comes to the siding, both Hockett and Paige agree that the Aged Cedar color was the best choice. The color reflects a burnt reddish cedar tone. This color is generally found when there’s a transition from a new cedar shake roof into the weathered deeper tone.  Above all, it complements the sandstone rock on the home and her new garage door.

“It all came together beautifully,” says Paige. “The warm look of the DaVinci cedar shake siding combines with the natural rock on the exterior. And the cool paint color on the garage door helps create an appealing exterior.

“Sharon really upgraded the curb appeal of her property with this project. Seeing how well the project turned out, I will be recommending the DaVinci shake to other customers in the future. It was easy to install, is very durable and has a great appearance. That’s a winning curb appeal combination!”
