Synthetic Slate Meets Needs of Senior Living Facilities

The beautiful Spring Arbor of Salisbury senior living facility was opened 11 years ago in Midlothian, Virginia. At that time, a synthetic slate roof was installed. Unfortunately, as the property owners and managers later discovered, all synthetic slate tile roofs are not the same.

“The synthetic slate roofing product we initially had on this facility cracked and was falling off,” according to Richard Williams, senior vice president of HHHunt Property Management, managers of Spring Arbor of Salisbury. “This was such a bad roofing situation that a warranty claim needed to be filed.”

Searching for a New Roof

“We used the synthetic slate roofs from DaVinci on a community we developed next door to Spring Arbor of Salisbury and liked the results,” says Williams. “After some research, we determined that the DaVinci synthetic slate product met our specifications and would complement the two buildings sitting side by side.

“The DaVinci product was completely different than the synthetic tile product we initially had problems with on our building. We have confidence in this composite roofing product and believe the long-term appeal will be strong.”

Replacing a Failing Roof

“The existing synthetic slate roofing product was just 10 years old but was cracking and falling off the roof,” says Ray D’Aguanno, commercial operations manager for Cross Timbers Roofing. “Sadly we’ve seen this company’s synthetic roofing material fail in our area on numerous projects. Many of these projects require new material in less than 10 years.

“It’s so critical for people to do their research before investing in roofing material. Not all synthetic slate tiles are the same. With DaVinci products you’re getting a reliable, beautiful product that’s backed by an outstanding warranty.”

Moving Forward with DaVinci

Now complete, the Single-Width Slate in a Slate Gray color proudly tops the 100-bed facility at Spring Arbor of Salisbury. The one-story brick colonial style building looks great with the new roof and residents again have peace-of-mind.

“This replacement project had a happy ending for us,” says Williams. “The project looks good, and the Cross Timbers Roofing team did a nice installation job that was completed on schedule.

“We’re pleased to put this initially bad roofing situation behind us. Based on what we’ve seen with the DaVinci synthetic slate products on our structures this past year, we’d recommend the DaVinci product to other facilities in need of a replacement or new composite roof.”
